Redefining the Game: Introducing the Institute for Sports and Missional Advancement & John Melvin University

Sports are a massive cornerstone of our culture.

From martial arts to major league baseball, billions of dollars and countless hours are poured into athletic competition. Yet for many athletes, coaches, and families, the pressure of a "win-at-all-costs" mentality can lead to a disconnected faith, intense isolation, and misplaced identity.

Institute for Sports and Missional Advancement

People are not always found sitting in a church pew on Sunday mornings. More often, they are on a field, a court, or in a stadium. Our goal is to meet the community exactly where they are. We want to preserve the competitive integrity of high-level sports while utilizing them as a powerful tool for the Gospel, showing athletes how to praise God in both the wins and the losses.

The Gameplan

Rather than launching a standard recreational league, the Institute is establishing a holistic framework designed to develop faith through meaningful participation in high-level athletic competition.

This initiative will include:

  • Studios: Beginning with Fortress Hill Martial Arts, we will engage and train youth, creating opportunities to serve and include the special needs community.
  • Coaches Training Labs & Workshops: Through partnerships with organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, we will host clinics, workshops, and training experiences designed to equip coaches to lead with character and spiritual intentionality.
  • Clinics & Camps: Seasonal sports camps and skill-specific clinics will help athletes sharpen their abilities, develop character, build relationships, and encounter the life-changing message of the Gospel. Elite Competitive Teams: The Institute will develop high-caliber church-sponsored teams in baseball, softball, basketball, and more to compete at the highest levels while demonstrating Christian integrity.
  • International Missions: Through organized international exhibition trips, we will serve as global conduits for the Gospel.

John Melvin University

Through a new partnership with John Melvin University in Orlando, we are bridging the gap between faith and athletics. Whether in the ring, on the field, or in everyday life, we are learning what it means to not just learn our faith, but truly live it.

This fall, we are excited to welcome approximately 150 students from John Melvin University to our campus. Each Monday evening, these students will join us for dinner and our worship gathering as part of their weekly chapel experience.
