live generously

The Bible says in Matthew 6:24 that the top competitor for our commitment to Jesus is money. Giving allows us to demonstrate that He is more important to us than material things. Not having cash or check on hand doesn’t have to hold you back from giving. You can be obedient today by giving online. There is no organization with more potential to change the world than the local church!

At Northland we have always left the giving decision between you and God. That is not to say we don’t teach the biblical principles of giving, stewardship, and generosity.

Matthew 6:21 says "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (NIV). Our giving should be an act of worship to the Lord. As Christians, we are called to give. In fact, 2 Corinthians 8-9 lays out why giving is to be viewed as an act of worship.

  • If you are a follower of Jesus you should set the example in the grace of giving.
  • When you give, you are expressing the love you have for Jesus.
  • God loves willing and cheerful givers.
  • When you give your willingness to be generous is more important than the amount.
  • Our giving will result in praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Giving is an act of obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ.
  • Our giving should be a natural response to the surpassing grace God has given you.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
– Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Stewardship Update

Budget for Fiscal (7/1/21-6/30/22) : $7.5M

As of 5/10/2022

A big thank you to those who stepped up your giving, specifically during this first part of May. As you can see from the chart, we are up to 46% of budget after only nine days of this month! Thank you for your continued faithfulness and generosity.

In my previous posts, I let you know about the Student Ministry Center, aka The Rink, needing a new roof due to insurance being canceled. We have decided that our best course of action is to replace the roof. Instead of drawing down the reserve funds, we are planning a weekend giving campaign called “Raise the Roof” to be held on the weekend of June 11th and the 12th.

As we thought about this giving weekend, we also thought this would be a strategic time to meet other needs in various ministry areas that will help position us better for ministry and mission in this new season. In addition to replacing the roof, we also want to:

  • Invest in relaunching the Café for weekday hours and community outreach
  • Upgrade and enhance the Student Ministry Center for our students
  • Enhancements and replacements to the Children’s wing and COOP area
  • End the fiscal year giving towards the General Fund on a high note

Our goal for the “Raise the Roof” giving campaign will be $1,000,000. In the coming days and weeks, you will hear more details about the giving weekend and the improvements we want to make.

Pastor Josh, the Governing Elders, and the staff couldn’t be more excited about this season of Northland. We believe this is an excellent opportunity for Northland to raise the roof and give above and beyond our regular tithes and offerings to help facilitate the ministry and mission of engaging people to be fully alive in Jesus.

Appreciated Stock or Property

There may be significant tax savings associated with donating appreciated property to the Church. If you are considering making a gift of stock or other appreciated property, consult with your tax advisor to determine whether donating the item or stock itself, as opposed to the proceeds from liquidation, might result in tax savings on your personal income tax return.

Contact the church finance department for our stock brokerage firm's information.
