The Bible says in Matthew 6:24 that the top competitor for our commitment to Jesus is money. Giving allows us to demonstrate that He is more important to us than material things. Not having cash or check on hand doesn’t have to hold you back from giving. You can be obedient today by giving online. There is no organization with more potential to change the world than the local church!

At Northland we have always left the giving decision between you and God. That is not to say we don’t teach the biblical principles of giving, stewardship, and generosity.

Matthew 6:21 says "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (NIV). Our giving should be an act of worship to the Lord. As Christians, we are called to give. In fact, 2 Corinthians 8-9 lays out why giving is to be viewed as an act of worship.

  • If you are a follower of Jesus you should set the example in the grace of giving.
  • When you give, you are expressing the love you have for Jesus.
  • God loves willing and cheerful givers.
  • When you give your willingness to be generous is more important than the amount.
  • Our giving will result in praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Giving is an act of obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ.
  • Our giving should be a natural response to the surpassing grace God has given you.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
– Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Stewardship Update

Budget for Fiscal (7/1/21-6/30/22) : $7.5M

As of 1/26/2022

What if you could easily increase the impact of your donation to Northland?

Allow me to show you how you can give in the most cost-effective way and save Northland tens of thousands of dollars a year.

Before I go any further, I want to make sure you know how grateful we are for your obedience to give generously of your finances to Northland. We couldn’t fulfill our calling from the Lord without you. Your donations make our ministry possible! If you’re curious, however, and you’d like to dig a little deeper into the details of what fees are required to process your donations, read on.

Whenever anyone transfers money to another entity, whether by check or card (both debit and credit), there will be processing fees, this is just a fact in this day and age. However, sometimes you can make decisions that will lower these fees, which means that your donations will go further.

Here’s an interesting fact: if we added all the processing fees placed upon the donations Northland received from credit and debit card transactions in 2021, we could have saved over $50,000 in fees alone by using bank transfers instead. We can do a lot of ministry with $50,000!

Here is a rundown of the fees that Northland pays for the various ways you donate, beginning with the most cost-efficient. Pushpay is Northland’s preferred giving system. All donations are recorded in it and giving statements are generated from it.

Cash

  • No processing fees are placed upon cash donations.
  • If you give cash in an envelope that includes your details, we can send you a 2022 giving statement for your taxes like the one you’ve received this month.

Checks

  • Processing fees are approximately 15 cents per check, no matter the amount.
  • Northland pays this fee for each check dropped off in one of our offering receptacles in the building or mailed in.
  • For each automated deduction (recurring donations) you set up to be sent directly from your bank account to Northland, the bank treats these as a check sent to Northland, and we pay 15 cents for them to process it.

Bank transfer (Automated Clearing House, ACH)

  • This option can be found in the Northland App, Worship guide or at our website under “Give.”
  • Processing fee is only .2% of the amount you donate plus a small charge per item..
  • Over 25% of our congregation use Bank Transfers to give. This is Northland’s preferred electronic option.

Debit card

  • Processing fee begins just below 2.0% of the amount you donate plus a small charge per item.
  • But, you can choose to add 2.2% to each gift you make to offset these processing costs.
  • Can be found in the Northland App, Worship guide or at our website under “Give.”

Credit card

  • Processing fee is 2.0% or higher added to the amount you donate plus a small charge per item.
  • But, you can choose to add 2.2% to each gift you make to offset these processing costs.
  • Can be found in the Northland App, Worship guide or at our website under “Give.”

Now that you have the information, you can make an educated decision about how you give. However you choose to give, let me reiterate that we are grateful for your financial support. Even though sometimes we must “render to Caesar what is Caesars’,” we want you to know that when you give to Northland, you support the work of God’s kingdom. May God bless you!

If you have an email on file with us, your 2021 giving statement has been emailed to you. Physical statements were mailed out Friday, January 28 for those without an email on file. If you have any questions, email financeteam@northlandchurch.net or call (407) 949-4000.

Appreciated Stock or Property

There may be significant tax savings associated with donating appreciated property to the Church. If you are considering making a gift of stock or other appreciated property, consult with your tax advisor to determine whether donating the item or stock itself, as opposed to the proceeds from liquidation, might result in tax savings on your personal income tax return.

Contact the church finance department for our stock brokerage firm's information.

IRA's

If you’re 70-1/2 years or older, qualifying direct charitable IRA distributions made within prescribed limits count toward IRA distribution requirements and are excluded from taxable income. The age to begin taking the required minimum distributions (RMD) from IRA's has been increased to 72 years and older. The distributions must come directly from your IRA to a qualifying charity.
