“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Sermon Only)

with Pastor Vernon Rainwater

“On earth as it is in heaven” is good news. A God who makes all things new is doing that in real time. God is using everything that happens on earth to bring joy to completion. God's will on earth as it is in heaven means that all the wills of the earth - personal, organizations, cities, states, countries - are in submission to God's design. The Kingdom of the earth is the collection of our wills and it is broken and opposed to God. The Kingdom of Heaven is where God's effective will reigns supreme and everything is in harmony with God.

Sermon text: Matthew 6:9-13
Scriptures referenced: Ephesians 1:10, Romans 8: 19 -22, Revelation 21:1-6a, 2 Samuel 7:22, Romans 8:28, Ephesians 6:10-18

As Seen In Worship:
“All the interests of my reason, speculative as well as practical, combine in the three following questions:
1. What can I know?
2. What ought I to do?
3. What may I hope?”

– Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason

“We would rather be ruined than changed
We would rather die in our dread

Than climb the cross of the moment
And let our illusions die.”

– W. H. Auden, The Age of Anxiety
