Bud Abt is Northland's facilities manager. He works with his team to carry out the day-to-day duties of maintenance and upkeep of our facilities. He and his staff, along with volunteers, also help other ministries in the church with their special projects. Bud is a lifelong Central Florida resident and began attending Northland in 1975. In 1984, when Northland purchased the skating rink on Dog Track Road, he was elected to serve as the finance deacon. In 1990 he was chosen to serve as a governing elder and then came on staff in 1992. Since then he has served in several positions, including finance director prior to his present role. Bud received his degree in business management in 1979 from the University of Central Florida. In 1978, during a co-op assignment with UCF in Washington, D.C., he met his wife, Cecilia; they were married in December 1979. He completed his business management degree that same year. After graduating he worked as an office manager for a friend's company; at General Electric Credit, doing equipment inspections and audits; and for Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin), putting together labor proposals for production operations. Bud sees his calling as to provide the environment and resources to others so they can effectively minister to the congregation and community. "I see the Lord encourage me all the time by providing the volunteers and other resources to fulfill my role," he says. "I pray that as my team and I serve the staff and congregation, they are better prepared to do ministry." Bud and Cecilia have two daughters: Diana and Jessica.
