Meet Northland’s Summer Interns!
Summer college interns have been part of Student Ministries for years. Pastor Rob Hemphill had the vision of giving college students an opportunity to get some real ministry experience as they sought God’s plan for their lives.
This summer Jarrett Conkling, Austin Bowlin and Hannah Warner were the interns that received this opportunity. Jarrett and Austin were brought on as Student Ministries assistants, getting the opportunity to help plan programming and events and caring for the students. Hannah Warner specifically was brought on as the summer worship leader, but she also has helped in facilitating the entirety of Student Ministries. These students have a calling to ministry and a desire to pursue it. They have also shown a boldness in their faith and an ability to lead, which made them suited for these positions of learning at Northland. Here they share more about themselves.
I’m Jarrett Conkling. I’m about to begin my sophomore year of college at Florida State University. I’m studying psychology and biology but also have been feeling a massive call to ministry. This summer has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve learned so many things about pursuing ministry as a career, from simply leading Bible studies to interacting with other departments of a church to organizing trips for students. It’s been a blessing to see this side of ministry and to aid in the growth of students’ spiritual lives. This summer has been an opportunity for leadership, but more importantly, a lot of personal growth. I am learning who I want to become and what I want my life to reflect in all aspects, spiritually and personally.
Hello, I’m Austin Bowlin. I’m going into my senior year of college at the University of Central Florida, studying communication and IT. Ministry has always been a huge part of my life. Since high school, I have been developing leadership and communication skills, so working here at Northland this summer was the next step for me in my pursuit in ministry. I am so excited for these students at Northland to continue to fellowship and develop their leadership skills. I am stoked for the growth of Northland Student Ministries, and I am thankful to be part of it!
I’m Hannah Warner. I am 20 years old, and I am going into my fourth year at Florida State University, studying music therapy. It has been so sweet to come back to my home church and lead worship for the students this summer. The Lord is at work in this generation, and it is evident in their joy and excitement about the gospel and building community. With the amazing team of leaders in Student Ministries, I believe the students will continue to grow in their faith and as a family at Northland.
