Jonah Obeys God/ The Prophet Zephaniah (Oct 6-8)
We worship the God who is faithful. That means He keeps all His promises. God takes great delight in each one of us! That means we make Him happy.
When you sit at home: Age 3-Kindergarten what has happened to Jonah so far (Jonah 1-2)? Read Jonah 3:1-10. God gave Jonah a second chance to obey. Did Jonah obey this time? What happened when he obeyed?
Grades 1-2 read Zephaniah 1:12; 2:3a; 3:17 and Grades 3-5 read Zephaniah 1:12; 2:3; 3:17-20. What does it mean to be “complacent” (Zeph 1:12)? What is the warning Zephaniah gives to complacent people? What choice does God want us to make (Zeph 2:3)? What is God’s promise to those who make that choice (Zeph 3:17)?
When you walk along the road: God wants us to seek Him; that means to focus our mind and heart on Him. When we seek God, we want to spend time with Him and choose to do things His way. Even when we our seeking God, sometimes we fail and we sin. What does God promise to do if we ask for forgiveness?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Thank You, Lord, for the second chances you give us. Strengthen us to obey Your Word and help us find joy and comfort in trusting You alone. Amen.”
When you get up: Zephaniah 3:17 says “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.” God promises He is always with us. Write this verse on paper and post it on your refrigerator, by a door, or in a place you will see it often. This week, challenge your family to learn this verse. Make a game of it by taping the verse to a small toy or stuffed animal and keep it on the kitchen table. Each time the toy is tossed to someone, they have to recite the verse. Listen to the Bible memory verse song below. For a bonus activity, grab a box of sidewalk chalk and head outside. Write the verse in large letters on your driveway or sidewalk, then illustrate it as desired.
“The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.” Psalm 145:13b
'He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
