Jacob and Esau (September 7-8)
We worship the God who keeps all His promises. This weekend in children's church, we will hear the story of two brothers, Jacob and Esau. We are reminded that God has a plan for every one of us.
When you sit at home: Ages 3-K read Genesis 27:30-35; 32:5; 33:4-11. Grades 1-3 read Genesis 25:29-33; 27:19-23, 32-36. Grades 4-5 read Genesis 25:22-34; 27:41. How do you think Esau felt when he realized Jacob had tricked him? When Jacob asked Esau to forgive him, what did Esau do?What can we learn from this story about how to treat our family and friends?
Ages 4-K Whisper Verse: “Forgive everyone.”
When you walk along the road: God knows that even when we try our hardest, we make wrong choices. The good news is He still chooses us, He forgives us, and He wants to use us! 1 Peter 2:9 says God chose you so “that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” How can you declare God’s praises?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Thank You, God, for choosing us.Help us to forgive and to love others as You have forgiven and loved us. Amen.”
When you get up: Jacob used stew to trick his brother, Esau. As a family, make a soup, stew, or fruit salad. Talk about some of the things that might cause you to fight with friends or family. What could you do to keep from arguing?
