Healing Through Art
Hello, Northland Family! My name is Brad Rahr and I am a Student Intern at Northland’s Oviedo Counseling Clinic.
The Oviedo Counseling Clinic is a partnership ministry between Northland Church and Reformed Theological Seminary, serving the Central Florida community since 1994. Our clinic is staffed by Northland care and counseling graduate student interns earning their Masters of Arts in Counseling. This unique partnership allows the Oviedo Counseling Clinic to offer exceptional counseling at an affordable rate.
Along with my good friend and peer Aimee McKinney, we would like to invite you to participate in a therapeutic program called First Aid Arts!
First Aid Arts uses expressive arts activities to help turn trauma and hurt into creativity and healing, while also seeking to help people build self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and emotional regulation. The arts are a powerful tool for physical, spiritual and emotional healing.
“First Aid Arts provides necessary skills to facilitate empathy, attachment, connection, creativity, and a renewed sense of vitality for care providers working within trauma affected communities. Their curriculum is well-researched, tested, and flexible enough to meet the needs of organizations.”
— NISHA SAJNANI, PH.D. HARVARD PROGRAM OF REFUGEE TRAUMA
I know what you’re thinking… “But I can’t draw.” The good news is that we won’t be grading you on your artistic skills. We believe that everyone is a creative and an artistic being regardless of profession or their perceived artistic talent. All that is required for this program is that you are open to trying new things!
First Aid Arts believes in the importance of feeling heard, seen and honored in community as a way of transformation and empowerment. Celebrating mistakes is a large part of this program as it seeks to help people develop the courage to be themselves in community, as this is where we believe healing and transformation can happen.
We are catering this edition of First Aid Arts to the large community of caregivers at Northland Church. There are many out there who are giving their time, talent, and treasure to care for those who cannot care for themselves. If that sounds like you, then we would invite you to join us in community where you can be cared for, seen and heard. We are looking for approximately 15-20 participants to join us this coming February. Participation will be on a first-come-first-serve basis so we would encourage you to reach out as soon as possible to reserve your spot.
If you or someone you know spends their time selflessly serving those whom God has given you to love then we invite you to join us for this amazing therapeutic experience.
February 11 through May 13
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
