#GivingTuesdayNow Recap

Our Northland family came together in an incredible way this past Tuesday. Since we’ve had to shut our doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have encouraged our congregation to pray, serve, connect, and give. Tuesday was a beautiful moment where we got to see the culmination of all of those things.

For Giving Tuesday, we had three ways to give -- Give money, give food, give time. We hosted a drive-thru food drive on campus, a fundraiser on Facebook, and encouraged everyone to sign up for Local Serve Day on June 6.

During the food drive, 145 cars drove thru and filled 105 bins with food! “Tuesday was such an incredible day!” said Missions Director, Matt Shiles. “I was so encouraged to see the steady stream of cars driving through to drop off canned goods, wave, and smile. Seeing so many familiar faces was a highlight of my week!” The energy was infectious. Many cars lingered to have conversations with our Northland staff that they haven’t seen face to face in so long. See some photos of those familiar faces here >

At this time, we have seen more than ever that the church is not the building, it is the people. Being able to come together safely in the building that is so familiar to us was such an incredible light at the end of what has been a dark and confusing tunnel. Yes, we are by no means “back to normal,” but this day was a glimpse into what we will soon return to.

Director of Children’s Ministries, Debbie Blahnik, said one of her volunteers drove by with her 2-year-old granddaughter in her car seat. She later received a text saying that when they left, the granddaughter kept saying “I want kids, I want kids.”

In addition to all the food that was donated, we raised $21,740.56 for those impacted by COVID-19 in our community. Thank you for your generosity, Northland family! If you would like to continue to give financially, you can do so here

It’s not too late to join in on the giving spirit. Our next serve-where-you-are Local Serve Day is June 6. Browse projects and sign up here.

Tuesday night, Pastor Sean Cooper sent this prayer to our staff.

Family— Driving off Northland property this is my prayer today—

God— Thank you for this church, thank you for an amazing congregation, thank you Holy Spirit for moving in the midst of difficult times. The sun bearing down, a visible reminder of your light shining on your people. Darkness can’t hold your church back, nothing holds our Creator back.

Thank for an amazing team.

Smiles, laughter, joy, generosity, life.

Holy Spirit— Would you do it again?
