Christmas Eve (Dec 22-24)

Christmas Eve (Dec 22-24)

*For more ideas on celebrating Advent with your family, download this free Advent for Families Devotional and Planner.

During Advent, the four Sundays before Christmas, we get our hearts ready to celebrate the coming of King Jesus. God gave us the greatest gift of all by sending His Son Jesus to us. Sunday, December 23 is the fourth Sunday in Advent and just two days away from Christmas! If you have a nativity set or an Advent wreath, put them in a special where your family can gather to read scripture, talk about the first Christmas, and light the Advent candles.

Candle: Today, we light the fourth candle. It is called the Candle of Peace to remind us of the peace we receive through Jesus Christ our Lord. When Jesus entered the world, He brought peace to us: peace with God, peace with others, and peace in our own hearts.

Scripture: Let’s read Luke 2:8-14 again, but this time, focus on the angels’ role in this story. The angels celebrated God revealing Himself to us as the baby Jesus. “Glory to God in the highest heaven,” they said, “and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests!”

Nativity*: Add the angel to your nativity set.

* If you haven’t already, set up your stable, Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, shepherds, and animals.

Prayer: Dear God, sometimes our lives are anything but peaceful. Help us to quiet our minds, mouths, and bodies as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. We know that as we give our hearts to You, we can have peace that passes all understanding. Guide us in all we say and do, so we reflect Your peace to those around us. Amen.

Sing: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear,” or “Angels We Have Heard on High.”

Advent Photo Challenge: During the four weeks of advent, we’ll be posting a daily challenge for you on Facebook! Included with the challenge will be a scripture and word of the day. Read the scripture with family and friends and take a photo of something related to the word or scripture. Share your photo on that day’s Northland Children’s Facebook post or on your social media using #northlandadvent.

KIDS: Did you get this weekend’s Christmas Eve Kingdom Stories take home paper? Download it here.

PARENTS: There’s a devotional for you, too! Watch the video and download the materials at
