Advent 2: God?s Promise to Mary (Dec 8-10)
We worship the God of Peace. God brings peace and calmness to our hearts because we know He loves us and we know nothing is impossible with God!
During Advent, the four Sundays before Christmas, we get our hearts ready to celebrate the coming of King Jesus. God gave us the greatest gift of all by sending His Son Jesus to us.
When you sit at home: Read Luke 1:26-38. What did the angel Gabriel tell Mary about Jesus?
When you walk along the road: If an angel suddenly appeared before you and told you what God’s plans were for you, could you say what Mary did: “I serve the Lord. May it happen to me just as you said it would”?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Thank You, Lord, for including Your servant Mary in fulfilling Your promise of salvation. Thank You for including us in Your plans as well. May we honor You as Mary did with her willing heart and her courage to believe. Amen.”
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.”Psalm 118:1a
' For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulders: and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

When you get up: Sunday, December 9 is the second Sunday in Advent! If you have a nativity set or an Advent wreath, put them in a special where your family can gather to read scripture, talk about the first Christmas, and light the Advent candles.
Candle: Today, we light the second candle. It is called the Candle of Love to remind us God gave us the best gift ever because of His great love for us. What was that gift? (His Son, Jesus!)
Scripture: God sent an angel to prepare Mary, Jesus’ mother, for His birth. Read Luke 1:28-33. God also sent an angel to prepare Joseph, Jesus’ father, for Jesus’ birth. Read Matthew 1:20 21. God chose Mary and Joseph, two people who loved each other and loved Him. Their faith and love for God gave them the courage to follow His will for their lives. Our faith and love for God can help us follow His will knowing that He is in control and has a purpose for us in His kingdom.
Nativity*: Add Mary and Joseph to your nativity set. Talk about how they may have felt when they heard they were to be the parents of God’s Son.
* If you haven’t already, set up your stable, animals (save the sheep for next week), and if you have a manger that is separate from the baby, place it in the stable. If you do not, you may choose to wrap a small box and place it in the stable.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to earth as a baby. We love You. Help us to show that love to those around us in what we say and do. Guide our steps as we follow Your will for our lives. Amen.
