About the Red Bag Project

It’s hard to learn when you’re hungry!

We need your help stocking the food pantries of the Seminole County schools we serve. During the school year, we deliver food to the schools every two weeks, which is then sent home with the children who otherwise might not have food for the weekend.

Although we appreciate the generosity of everyone, we do need specific items in order to pack the proper bag of food to last the weekend for each child so make sure to read the list of items needed.

Your donations to the Red Bag Project could literally mean a student eats over the weekend. Many Seminole County students are in need and were eligible for free and reduced lunch. This provides food during the school week but not on the weekends. The pantry allows the opportunity for food to be brought home on the weekends for students who need it the most.

What other ways are you reducing the food needs?

Winter Springs Elementary school has started a tower garden, which the kids help tend. They are able to send home some limited fresh produce. The kids are learning about gardening through the raised-bed gardens and the aeroponic gardens. It also promotes student responsibility and healthful eating.

The fruits and vegetables that we grow are not only enjoyed by the students but also benefit the Red Bag Food Pantry. Fresh produce from the gardens are sent home with the canned goods each weekend to families-in-need.

About the School Supply Collection

School supplies donated will go directly to Tools 4 Seminole Schools (formerly A Gift for Teaching – Seminole County.) The organization provides free school supplies to every school in Seminole County. Teachers “shop” at the free store for supplies they can give to students in need. Those supplies include backpacks, notebooks, pencils and more.
