Colossians 3:18-25 (NIV)

18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

Colossians 4:1 (NIV)

Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

Prayer Focus

Join us in praying for our new lead pastor and his family. May they be filled with all joy and peace as they trust in Him.

Worship Focus

Today we worship Jesus as Lord. Since all power and authority belong to Him, it follows that any power and authority we have over others should be acted upon according to His character and priorities.

THIS WEEK'S DIGGING DEEPER Bible study

DIG DEEPER HERE +

ABOUT THIS SERMON SERIES

Pause for a moment and think about your roots. Where do your people come from? How are your genetic roots reflected in how you look, your personality, your outlook on the world? If you’re doing this study with others, have everyone talk about where they were born. Have you ever had to “pull up roots” and move? What was that like for you? Do you feel rooted in the place where you are now? Is having a sense of being rooted important to you? Why?

Pause for a moment and think about your roots. Where do your people come from? How are your genetic roots reflected in how you look, your personality, your outlook on the world? If you’re doing this study with others, have everyone talk about where they were born. Have you ever had to “pull up roots” and move? What was that like for you? Do you feel rooted in the place where you are now? Is having a sense of being rooted important to you? Why?

Now think about the early Christ-followers in the first century. They were people like you and me, concerned about many of the same things that concern us. They dealt with family dynamics and desired to interact wisely with the world around them. They searched for meaning in life and tried to discern what is true and good.

Paul’s letter to Colossae was written during the beginning stages of Christianity. These early disciples didn’t have Bibles like we do today, so they relied upon letters from people they trusted to help them navigate their way. A letter from a trusted authority would go a long way in helping them feel secure about their beliefs as Christ-followers. This letter from Paul aimed to help its readers remain focused on Christ as they lived their lives. We need to hear Paul’s powerful words today. Say the following verses out loud and take them in:

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
-Colossians 2:6-7*

We have an opportunity this summer to grow together as disciples who follow Jesus. Let us find our roots in Jesus, as we are built up and strengthened as a church.

Sharing Your Hope With Others

THURSDAY, AUGUST 5 AT 6:30 P.M.

Everyone wants to leave a legacy, but one way to make an eternal impact is to bring someone else into God's family. Did you know that, if you are a Christian, you are an ambassador of Jesus Christ? You may not feel qualified to do this because you feel you lack certain character traits or the right personality. This class will give you confidence and practical tools to share your hope with others.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5 ESV)

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5 ESV)

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.” ( 1Tim 6:17-19 ESV)

As we start our journey as a church in the new fiscal year, we have established our budget so that we may be diligent, as the scripture says. This diligence is how we intend to use the finances God brings to us through you. The 2021-22 budget is $7,500,000, and we have spread the giving out by month so we can track our progress. As you can see from the chart, Christmas and end-of-year giving, along with Easter giving, are significant milestones for us and all churches. This budget is a reduced one, reflecting the trend of the past few years, and requires our budget authorities to manage expenses closely.

If our giving exceeds the budget, that will create an opportunity to fund additional ministry needs and missional endeavors that we are ready to execute.

Northland family, consider becoming a recurring giver so that you can be assured that you are consistently supporting your church. We are committed to stewarding your generosity in the furtherance of His Kingdom by “Engaging people to be Fully Alive in Jesus.”

Thank you for partnering with us.
