Colossians 4:7-18 (NIV)

7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. 9 He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here.

10 My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) 11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. 13 I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. 14 Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. 15 Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.

16 After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea.

17 Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

18 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

THIS WEEK'S DIGGING DEEPER Bible study

ABOUT THIS SERMON SERIES

Pause for a moment and think about your roots. Where do your people come from? How are your genetic roots reflected in how you look, your personality, your outlook on the world? If you’re doing this study with others, have everyone talk about where they were born. Have you ever had to “pull up roots” and move? What was that like for you? Do you feel rooted in the place where you are now? Is having a sense of being rooted important to you? Why?

Pause for a moment and think about your roots. Where do your people come from? How are your genetic roots reflected in how you look, your personality, your outlook on the world? If you’re doing this study with others, have everyone talk about where they were born. Have you ever had to “pull up roots” and move? What was that like for you? Do you feel rooted in the place where you are now? Is having a sense of being rooted important to you? Why?

Now think about the early Christ-followers in the first century. They were people like you and me, concerned about many of the same things that concern us. They dealt with family dynamics and desired to interact wisely with the world around them. They searched for meaning in life and tried to discern what is true and good.

Paul’s letter to Colossae was written during the beginning stages of Christianity. These early disciples didn’t have Bibles like we do today, so they relied upon letters from people they trusted to help them navigate their way. A letter from a trusted authority would go a long way in helping them feel secure about their beliefs as Christ-followers. This letter from Paul aimed to help its readers remain focused on Christ as they lived their lives. We need to hear Paul’s powerful words today. Say the following verses out loud and take them in:

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
-Colossians 2:6-7*

We have an opportunity this summer to grow together as disciples who follow Jesus. Let us find our roots in Jesus, as we are built up and strengthened as a church.

Sharing Your Hope With Others

THURSDAY, AUGUST 5 AT 6:30 P.M.

Everyone wants to leave a legacy, but one way to make an eternal impact is to bring someone else into God's family. Did you know that, if you are a Christian, you are an ambassador of Jesus Christ? You may not feel qualified to do this because you feel you lack certain character traits or the right personality. This class will give you confidence and practical tools to share your hope with others.

We are nearing the end of our sermon series, Rooted, where we have been studying Colossians. I thought it would be interesting to review the verses that addressed financial topics.

We are nearing the end of our sermon series, Rooted, where we have been studying Colossians. I thought it would be interesting to review the verses that addressed financial topics. The concepts of ownership, where your mind and heart are focused and how we are to work, and the reward the Lord has for it are all addressed. It is encouraging to know that the spirit-inspired scriptures address the areas where we can struggle and give us answers.

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Col 1:16) NIV

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. “(Col 3:1-2) NIV

“Slaves obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Col 3:22-24) NIV

As of July 25th we are at 80% of the budget with five days left in the month. The chart shows the first quarter of our fiscal year, the next few months have a bit lower expectation than July. As we start our new fiscal year, we are hopeful that we will meet the July giving forecast. We are in the midst of our annual audit and should have our final financials by the end of September. We have also completed the move of our building mortgage over to Christian Financial Resources. We are excited to be partnering with them as they fund other churches’ building projects.

Northland family, thank you for supporting this ministry. If you call Northland home and have not started to partner with us financially, please consider doing so. We are committed to being good stewards of the resources we receive in the furtherance of His Kingdom.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in us to steward your generosity.
