16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”
2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”
The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.”
4 Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?”
5 Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
“For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase our resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.” 2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT
As Pastor John demonstrated to us during his message on Good Friday, God is our provider. His illustration focused on a single kernel of corn and its potential to produce tens of thousands of new kernels. However that single kernel, capable of bringing forth life and life in abundance, requires action in order to reach its potential. It needs to fall or be placed in fertile ground. It needs water and nourishment to begin to grow. It needs protection for the elements that can cause it harm. It needs to be harvested for it to provide its greatest purpose to give life.
God calls each of us to be like that kernel of corn. To take root in the Word. To join together with fellow believers to strengthen each other and gain protection from the enemy. To grow daily toward our full potential. To be willing to provide for others through our generosity.
Every choice we make provides for the opportunity to be generous.
Make this commitment with us to “catch yourself” and “give thanks’ in those moments in which you are GROWING in fertile ground. Being NOURISHED so that you can grow in your faith. PROTECTED from the enemy by building relationships with fellow believers. Being a LIFE GIVER by openly sharing the saving grace of Jesus with others through your words, your acts, and your commitment to listening for God’s call on every aspect of your daily walk with him.
Thank you for your generous support of all the ministries and services that make up who Northland is. Together we are stronger, together we are made capable, and together we answer the call to serve God by being His witnesses of the saving grace of Jesus Christ in everything we do.
