Ministry Impacting Local Students for Jesus

Tom Breckwoldt

I’m a campus missionary with Every Nation Churches & Ministries and the youth and campus pastor at Lake Mary Church here in Central Florida. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Ashley, for almost 10 years, and we have two amazing children: Tommy, 6, and Hannah, 4.

In August 2013, the Lord captured my heart and called me out of a successful career in the fitness industry to pursue full-time ministry as a campus missionary. Before I gave my life to Jesus in 2011, I was centered on becoming a success in the world to fill the void in my heart from childhood hurts.

But when I gave my life to Jesus, everything changed. I remember hearing God clearly telling me that He was calling me to reach the next generation. We are now on nine public high school and middle school campuses in Seminole County as well as two college campuses: Seminole State College and the University of Central Florida.

In five years, through discipleship and devotions after school, we have witnessed more than 2,500 students make the decision to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

In 2013, we launched our high school youth group, Student Warriors Awakening Generations (SWAG). In 2016, we launched our middle school youth group, Student Warriors Arising Together (SWAT), and on January 10, 2017, we officially launched our college ministry, Every Nation Campus!

More than 300 students attend our campus nights weekly, and all of our ministry teams are student-led. Hundreds of students are being discipled yearly by other students, and we have 30 weekly life groups on campus led by students.

We reached more than 90 percent of the students in our ministry on the campuses, and because of what God has done in their lives, their families are now attending church and are radically changed by the love of Jesus. Students’ and families’ lives are being transformed. God is moving to restore broken families and the fatherless!

Another huge part of our ministry is focused on reaching students who have been challenged through their environments, resulting in being expelled from public school, charged with a crime, or taken away from their families by Child Protective Services.

We mentor students weekly at the Seminole County Detention Center, Journeys Academy and Boys Town. In the detention center alone, we have seen more than 500 students accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior in our five years of ministry. Boys Town consists of four group homes in Oviedo, where middle and high school students stay who have been taken away from their families by Child Protective Services. We are on their campus every week leading life groups for the students, and we include the parent teachers as well! We have seen many of these students accept Jesus through our ministry and are in the process of finding residency for them when they age out of the program.

I also have the privilege of serving as the character coach for the Lake Mary High School football and volleyball teams as well as the Lake Mary Marionettes dance team. Every week I share a specific discipline that the athletes can apply to their area of athleticism and in their lives to help them become the men and women they are called to be.

We have seen a significant shift in character since implementing character coaching, and it is another way we are impacting the next generation through investing in the local campuses and students.

We are in awe of what God has done through our ministry here in Seminole County. The fatherless now have a Father, the lost are now found, and many sorrows have turned to joy. Families have been restored, and students are so eager to go on their campuses and talk about Jesus because they have experienced His love, healing and comfort!

Please join us in praying for God’s wisdom as we continue to go out and reach students on the campuses. Pray that His love will fill the heart of every student in Seminole County and that our ministry can continue to serve the community in the way we have over the past five years.
