February in Children’s Ministries

Volunteer of the Month
Brooke McEwen

Brooke McEwen has been with Children's Ministries for the last year as a 2nd grade teacher, but is always happy to jump in any classroom with a need. Brooke loves to run, and competes in track and cross-country. She is full of energy and love and has made the whole team proud with her hard work and positive outlook on life. Thank you Brooke, for your first year of serving in Children's Ministries.

“Why did you DRAW that?”
We learned about Jesus’ ascension (Acts 1:3-11).  That was when Jesus went up into heaven.  We learned He promised us the Holy Spirit, who will help us live like Christ.

Is your child ready to take communion?
Young Disciples Step 2 (Grades 2-5)
Wednesdays starting February 21, 6 to 8 p.m., rooms 5108-09.

Young Disciples Step 2 teaches children in grades two through five what it means to live as disciples of Christ. Children, alongside their parent or mentor, will explore the seven ways we respond to God for the benefit of others: by worshiping, reading the Bible, sharing our story, being in community, praying, serving, and living generously. This six-week study concludes with the celebration of Communion on April 4.
A parent or adult must attend classes with the child.

Do you have a fifth-grader in your home?
LUG Connect (Grade 5)
Fourth Saturday of every month through May 26, Children’s Worship Wing.

Northland’s Student Ministries and Children’s Ministries together want to help you and your child navigate through the transition from elementary to middle school with a fun and relational program called JumpStart! Students will get to know other fifth-graders and meet their future Student Ministries leaders. Parents will have a chance to connect other families, ask questions about Student Ministries’ programs, and ultimately become better equipped to continue to disciple your student.

Healing Hearts Club

Do you have a child age 8-13 that has experienced a traumatic event such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, abuse, or other traumatic event that has had a significant impact on their life?  Children who have experienced such trauma can go on to develop long-term mental health difficulties, not only causing considerable distress but also compromising their educational and social potential.

This spring break we are hosting a spring break camp "The Healing Hearts Club" the week of March 19- March 23, Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The Healing Hearts Club, designed by the American Bible Society, is a Bible Based program that gives an opportunity to change that trajectory. Children will learn how to work through their emotional and spiritual pain, through interactive, story-centered, activities. They will learn to take their pain to the cross, helping them to overcome anger, fear and loneliness, and experience God's love for them.
The camp is $25 per child for the week.
