With Broadway stars Kelli O’Hara and Brian D’Arcy James.

“America’s orchestra,” The Boston Pops, with conductor Keith Lockhart, will celebrate the 120th Anniversary of songwriter Cole Porter’s birth with highlights from his dynamite shows Anything Goes, Can-Can, Silk Stockings and Kiss Me, Kate. Celebrated as one of the greatest of the Great American Songbook writers, Porter’s saucy style and witty wordplay are brought to life by Broadway stars Kelli O’Hara and Brian D’Arcy James. The program showcases examples of Porter’s signature tunes, such as “Night and Day,” “I Get A Kick Out of You,” “Begin the Beguine,” “It’s De-Lovely” and “Too Darn Hot.”

The Boston Symphony Orchestra presents more than 250 concerts annually at Symphony Hall, Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall, as well as throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. James Levine joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as music director during the 2004-2005 season. Lockhart currently serves as conductor of the Boston Pops and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the summer institute and festival at the Brevard Music Center. He previously served as music director of the Utah Symphony for 11 years.

Based in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Germany, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie (German State Philharmonic) is the musical voice of the Rheinland region of Germany and divides its robust concert schedule between the regions two most important cities – Mannheim and Ludwigshafen. This is the orchestras first US tour, and will feature Philippe Entremont, piano soloist and conductor, whose successful debut in November 2008, inspired a regular collaboration.

Philippe Entremont, the magnetic French conductor/pianist, has been acclaimed worldwide for the elegance and virtuosity of his playing, as well as his outstanding interpretive abilities on the podium. He is a key example of internationally renowned artists who divide their careers between conducting and solo performances. In October 2004 Philippe Entremont was named Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Symphony, which he led on an extremely successful 29-concert debut U.S. tour during the fall of 2005. Maestro Entremont’s other notable posts include Conductor Laureate of both the Vienna Chamber and the Israel Chamber Orchestras, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquestra de Cadaqués. In addition, he founded the biennial Santo Domingo Music Festival in 1997, which celebrated its 5th season in 2005.

Northland will welcome the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in January 2011. Conductor Peter Oundjian has been music director of the orchestra for five seasons. At the beginning of his tenure in Toronto, Oundjian created the successful Mozart Festival, held annually, as well as the New Creations Festival. He also was the focus of a documentary titled Five Days in September: The Rebirth of an Orchestra. The orchestra celebrated its 88th season in 2010. More than 300,000 patrons and 70,000 students visit the orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall each year, and an additional 5 million Canadians tune in to concert broadcasts on CBC Radio. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra has featured music from such renowned composers as Henri Dutilleux, R. Murray Schafer and the late Sir Michael Tippett.

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra also serves the community with one of the largest music education outreach programs in Canada. Each year, the symphony reaches more than 100,000 young people in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario with curriculum-based programs.

The Annie Moses Band is unlike any ensemble in America today. This seems like a rather bold assertion. But the more you break it down, the truer it rings.

First, this is a family outfit, whose members include parents Bill (composer/arranger/pianist) and Robin (lyricist/vocalist) Wolaver and their children: Annie, Alex, Benjamin, Gretchen, Camille, and Jeremiah, in ages ranging from twenty-four down to ten. Second, their background is in classical music. The older siblings trained in the Pre-College Program at the renowned Juilliard School of Music; the youngest are well on their way to similar distinction. All have studied with renowned instructors; most have earned performance awards that testify to the depth of their artistry. Together, as the Annie Moses Band, they combine all their attributes: love for one another, prodigious talent, as well as a creative curiosity that goes beyond the classics, beyond even music, and into the great questions of life.

Join us on Friday, December 17th for a celebration of Christ’s birth!  The concert begins at 7:30pm and tickets start at $10.  Doors will open at 7:00pm.

You won’t want to miss this amazing night of worship and music!  Come, let us adore Him!

October 2 – 4th, 2010, Northland is pleased to host the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra.  Under the direction of Music Mission Kiev, one of Northland’s global partners in ministry, they will lead us in worship at each of our 5 worship services.  We hope that you will join us that weekend!

Music Mission Kiev began in 1995 when Roger and Diane McMurrin decided to form their own unique mission in Ukraine. Having lived already in Kiev for two years, and having formed the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, they saw the needs of Ukraine and how music played an important part in people’s lives. Musicians who were atheists and agnostics became warm to the Gospel, and many were coming to Christ. In fact, in their first worship service in 1994, one hundred musicians stood to receive Christ as Savior. This began the establishment of the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is still involved in their ministry today. These professional musicians have toured the US nine times since 1996 in forty-one States.

The purpose of Music Mission Kiev is to bring the sacred masterpieces of classical music to the country of Ukraine, proclaiming the Gospel to and through Ukrainian musicians to the world. That “world” includes evangelical outreach to the widows, orphans, school children, and general public of Ukraine, as well as internationally to America, and now the nearby countries of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. God is opening the doors for MMK to take their music to these foreign cultures that have yet to experience the transforming joy of works like Handel’s Messiah, performed in the Russian language, and other great masterpieces which proclaim Jesus Christ.

How can you help?
We are in need 47 families that would be willing to host the members of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra during the weekend that they are here.  In addition to providing a comfortable place for them to sleep for 3 nights, they will need transportation to and from Northland throughout the weekend as well as several meals provided by you, the host family.  One of the guidelines we have is that we must house these folks in pairs.

A lot of times parents need help, but nobody likes to ask for help.  So many parents out there are wondering, “Do I have what it takes to be a good parent?”
This six session study with videos by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott goes deeper than any technique of just getting kids to eat their broccoli and clean their room. It takes a Biblical approach of the traits parents want their children to have and what traits they want their children to see modeled in them.

This study is geared for married, single and blended families with young children.
