I was involved in several faith groups at Northland before I started working here. Two of those groups were collections of believers who gathered regularly for shared service, training and worship. We read the Bible together, we prayed for one another, and we went about the business of being Jesus’ witnesses. Along the way we fumbled through the best ways to follow God, and as a leader in both groups, I struggled with how to support our less-scripted version of the church. I kept at it because a quick look → MORE...

Oh, that Google. A few months ago, Meindert Kramer was searching for sermons online from his home in The Netherlands. Included on his playlist were some of America’s most prominent preachers: John Piper, Tim Keller ... and a certain Florida pastor with a penchant for telling stories. Looking over Meindert’s shoulder was his son, Wilbert, age 21. “It was 8 or 9 months ago that my dad came across our website,” Wilbert remembers (note that he says “our” website, even though he lives more than 4,500 miles away). “I had → MORE...

We’ve made a couple of technically small changes to our website that should offer big improvements. This year we have 300 people going on one of our 30 trips. In previous years the only real way to support someone going on a Distributed Journey was to write a check to Northland and drop it off onsite, or mail it in. But every year we’ve had growing demand for an easy way to make online gifts. So we’ve created a link for everyone going on a distributed journey this year for → MORE...

Last weekend, you helped launch online church in three different major languages; Russian, Ukrainian and Afrikaans. We recently sent two different teams bearing technology: one to New Life in Kiev, Ukraine; and another to Vredelust in Capetown, South Africa. Each team delivered hardware that Northland uses for online worship to our church partners, so that they could begin offering their services online to seekers and worshipers around the world. Both churches proceeded to launch online worship services last weekend. The results? Vredelust offered their service online in Afrikaans, a common language in → MORE...

By Jeff Kunerth, Orlando Sentinel | 7:22 PM EST, March 11, 2010 Social-media-friendly Northland, A Church Distributed, will start broadcasting its services on Facebook this Sunday — one of the first churches to do so. Anyone on Facebook can watch Northland services and comment, in real-time.
